The Casa de Campo do Vale do Asno was born of the will of the present owner to recover the patrimony that was transmitted to him by the relatives. It belonged to her maternal great-grandmother, Catarina Antunes, known in the family for "crooked grandmother", the day-to-day toil in the field and the weight of years did so.

 

The property, with about 20 ha, was formerly a farming site, whose predominant crop in 1959 was that of Figueira (see Portuguese Agricultural and Forestry Chart), with the remainder of the forest mainly consisting of the typical Barrocal Algarvio grove, almond trees, fig trees and carob trees, which has faded over time, by age and by forest fires. Previously the predominant culture was the meager pine tree whose potting was potentiated by the Arroteias promoted by the Estado Novo in the attempt to make our country self sustainable in cereals.

 

The restoration of the property began in 1982 with the construction of a small dam whose water mirror has about 1 ha of surface and that was motivated by the persistent drought in those years. Later, in 1994 it was forested and in 2013, after remodeling / enlarging the family home, it opened the doors to visitors as Casa do Campo do Vale do Asno. For being located in the place of the same name. Located in a prime location, at a heigth of 100 m and 5 km from the coastline of Monte Gordo Bay, it has a spectacular view over part of the counties of Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António and Spain.
